Polson girls, Whitefish boys claim crowns

POLSON – The Polson girls and the Whitefish boys claimed the team titles Saturday at the Northwestern A divisional track meet.

The Pirates won three events on the final day Saturday, and used their superior depth to hold off Whitefish, 139-124. Ronan-St. Ignatius was third at 76.

Drew Coco won a pair of events to lead the Bulldogs to the title with 162.5 points. Columbia Falls was second at 136.5, followed by Polson with 87.

The Polson girls got wins from Loni Havlovick in the shot put (36.10.75), Christa Redcrow in the long jump (16-5.75), and the 4x400M Relay team in a season best 4:10.0.

Sadie McMillan of Ronan-St. Ignatius and Kayla Carlson of Bigfork were double winners. McMillan won the 100 in 13.06 and the 200 in 26.8. Carlson improved her best time of the season by three seconds in the 800 to 2:19, and also won the 3,200 in 11:53.

Bigfork’s Mallery Knoll won the 300 hurdles in a blistering 45.9 seconds, one of just four marks under 46 seconds in the state this season.

Coco posted the best 800 time in the state this season at 1:57 for the Whitefish boys. That’s two full seconds better than any time in the state this spring. Coco added a win in the 3,200, finishing in 10:15.

Other wins for the Bulldogs came from Aaron Tkachyk in the long jump (21-8.25) and Willie Roche in the high jump (6-6).

The top five placers advanced to the State A meet, which begins Friday in Butte.

Whitefish boys, Polson girls grab early leads

POLSON – The Whitefish boys and the Polson girls took the lead after Friday’s first day of the Northwestern A divisional track meet.

The Bulldogs got a speedy 400-meter win from Anto Daoud and totaled 67 points. Polson is second with 52 and Columbia Falls third with 47.

The Polson girls also got a quick 400 win from Sierra Pete and took a narrow 63-60 lead over Whitefish. Libby is a distant third with 27 points.
Seven events for both the boys and girls were contested Friday. The meet wraps up Saturday with the top five placers in each event advancing to next week’s State A meet in Butte.

Daoud won the 400 in 50.92 seconds, his best time of the season and one of the top 10 in the state.

Columbia Falls won the 400 relay in 44.05 seconds, its best time of the season and one of the state’s best.

Drew Coco, the State A cross country champion, won the 1,600 in 4:35.

Pete took the girls’ 400 in 59.1 seconds, her season best and the seventh quickest in the state entering divisionals.

Adessa Durglo of Ronan-St. Ignatius won the triple jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 35 feet. That ranks in the top 10 marks in the state.

Polson also received wins from its 400 relay team and from Tara Johnson, who took the pole vault at 10 feet.
