Polson cruises past Anaconda

Polson piled on with seven runs in the final two innings to close up shop after five innings in a first-round game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.  Sarah Rausch batted 3 for 3 with four RBIs to lead Polson, which advanced to face Billings Central in the second round.  Hannah Fryberger was also 3 for 3 with an RBI and Kaelen Wall drove in two.  Lacee Moodry and Hanna Shaefer led Anaconda with two hits apiece.

Polson tops Billings Central

Kaelen Wall tripled, homered and drove in two runs to carry Polson past Billings Central. Sarah Rausch doubled and drove in a pair for the Pirates, who led 7-0 after four innings.  Haley Fyant went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for the Pirates, allowing just four hits and the single run. Allison Walter had two of those hits for the Rams.

Frenchtown, Ray shut down Polson

ANACONDA — A third straight State A softball title is within Frenchtown’s grasp.

The Broncs downed fellow Northwestern A member Polson 3-0 Friday behind Morgan Ray’s two-hitter to move into Saturday’s undefeated game at 9 a.m. Frenchtown (22-2), the two-time defending champ, will face Belgrade (16-6) for the right to move into the title game at 1 p.m.  Polson remained alive with a win over Libby and will face Hamilton (17-8) at 9 a.m. in the loser-takes-fourth game. Hamilton began the day with a loss to Belgrade, before rebounding with a 9-5 win over Butte Central.  The Polson-Hamilton winner will face the Belgrade-Frenchtown loser at 11 a.m. The winner of that game will get a crack at the championship.

Ray allowed just a pair of singles and the Broncs backed her with a three-run fourth inning.  Ray walked two and struck out 14.  Krista Hebnes doubled in a run in the Broncs’ three-run inning. Ray and Haley Cyr both singled and scored in the inning. Ray and Hebnes finished with two hits apiece.  Camas Renault pitched the first four innings for Polson and was tagged with the loss. She allowed all three runs, walked one and struck out one.

Polson ends Libby’s season

Haley Fyant flared a two-out single to right field that brought home three runs to power the Pirates to the win.  Libby had scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth to take a 3-2 lead before Fyant’s clutch base hit.  Skyla Krantz drove in another run for the Pirates.  Camas Renault pitched the first six innings to earn the win. Fyant pitched the seventh for a save.  Devon Gallagher homered and drove in two runs for Libby, which finished its season at 20-7.

Polson eliminates Hamilton

The Broncs held a 7-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t hold on in settling for fourth at state with their season-ending loss.  Critical to the outcome were 10 walks issued by Hamilton starting pitcher Sky Lopez. She also surrendered six runs on six hits before being replaced by Hayley Hudgins in the fifth. Hudgins ended up taking the loss after giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Hannah Fryberger led the Pirates at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double. Taylor Goligoski paced Hamilton (17-9), going 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs.

Belgrade ends Polson’s season

The Lady Pirates settled for third place in the tournament, falling victim to the hot-hitting Panthers with their 18 hits.  Belgrade set the tone early with Jordan Branch’s two-RBI double in the top of the first. Branch later scored to make it 3-0 heading into the second and the Panthers kept the lead throughout.  Trailing 8-1, Polson made a serious comeback bid in the bottom of the fourth with six runs on five hits. Kaelen Wall and Kaelyn Smith each had run-scoring singles.  The Pirates finished with a 20-9 record. Sarah Rausch and Haley Fyant paced the team at the plate, each collecting a pair of singles.
